Amen. Commentary: If you are old enough, you may remember that local television used to “sign-off.” That’s right, they did not broadcast around the clock non-stop as many currently do. Signing off, was scripted and usually involved a quick wrap up of the latest headlines, perhaps a weather update, a run-through of the F.B.I.’s most wanted, the playing of the national anthem and then closing with the Lord’s prayer. In Houston in the 70’s, a recording of Perry Como’s rendition was played along with video of a soaring white bird among the clouds. For many a viewer It was usually sad to realize that a test pattern or a white screen and static was just minutes away and something else was going to have to be found in place of a television broadcast for amusement. The Lord’s Prayer has been recorded by many, many signers over the years. Though the Como rendition seems deeply heartfelt with a capacity to calm many a listener or viewer or inspire deeper thought or contemplation.
