Prayer for the Day – July 1, 2020

The very first day…

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.[a] The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.”

And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.

Genesis 1:1-5 New Living Translation (NLT)

Commentary: The scriptural account of the creation of the very first day can be found in Genesis 1:5. Also noted is that with the Spirit of God hovering over the surface of the waters, He “spoke” the words “Let there be light” and there was light. Some observe that this is the first action of obedience followed by many, many more. The Almighty Father spoke and natural matter was transformed from a chaotic state to order. He then went on to name the light as “day” and the darkness “night.” Interestingly, there was no man, or woman yet to pray on the first day. That part of the creation did not unfold for a couple more days.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for the very first day, and all of your creation. Your transforming chaos into order points to the importance of orderliness and obedience.
