And on the seventh day He rested…
So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. 2 On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested[a] from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.

Commentary: The pattern that God presented of several days of work followed by rest is noted to mirror a pattern of our working days here on earth followed by rest in Heaven. The seventh day as a celebration of God’s work in His creation parallels with the celebration of His work with us here and the celebration in Heaven in the after life.
